Our handmade glass beads are created using a centuries-old process called flameworking (or "lampworking") where the glass rods are melted in a flame. The molten glass is formed into a bead or sculpture on a mandrel and decorated using a variety of glass colors, tools, materials, and techniques. Some aspects look like metal or like they have been painted, but it is all glass! Once complete, the beads are annealed in a special kiln to relieve the stress of heating and cooling, which ensures that the beads are durable.
Each bead is handmade individually and once it is annealed, it can be finished into jewelry using sterling silver and other accents. Although most of our beads are finished into jewelry, we do sell individual beads and are happy to take special requests for filler beads, focal beads, etc. for you to encorporate into your wearable art!
